Google Chrome to come with a mute button to silence auto-play videos on websites

Francois Beaufort, the Google Chromium leader, had announced a new update to Google Chrome.

The update will essentially mute the sound of the website in the background when videos are in autoplay mode. This feature would be available on the far left side of the Info bar, click on the ‘secure’ label and select the sound option.

This feature is available on Chrome Canary for now and it is yet to come in the public domain.  The users can try this feature in the Chrome Canary build by adding, --enable-features=SoundContentSetting switch.

Beaufort in a statement says, “This will give you more control about which website is allowed to throw sound at you automatically”. Google Chrome will roll out the mute button soon.

In early July, this year, Google had announced the Brotli compression algorithm integration. This Brotli compresses more densely, allows for better space utilization and faster page loads and it gives 20-26 percent higher compression ratios over Zopfli.
