Reliance 4G supported "JioPhone" launched, pre booking starts from Aug 24

Reliance has launched the the JioPhone, a 4G supported "kind of" basic phone in India. The phone will be available to customers starting from August 24. We need to pay INR 1500 deposit, which will be refunded after 3 years when the phone is returned. Logically, we are getting this JioPhone for fee of cost.
The JioPhone features 2.4" QVGA Color Display and it has NFC functionality to support digital payments, dual SIM functionality, The phone sports 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage which can be expanded, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, FM radio, and Bluetooth 4.1, support of voice commands, and a panic button, among other features. Reliance is providing a way to access the company's media streaming features with JioPhone. We can purchase an optional cable for this device and connect it to television display. Then we will be able to access Reliance's entire library of music, movies and TV shows. But access to this streaming feature requires Jio prime subscription.

As usual, the local calls and SMS over Jio's 4G VoLTE is completely free. We need to spend INR 153 to get 4G data, which includes 500MB of 4G data per day. Exceeding the limit will results 128kbps speed for rest of that particular day. Reliance also gives cheaper plans such as INR 53 Plan for 2 weeks and INR 23 plan for 2 days.

The phone will be available for beta testers from August 15 and open for pre-booking from August 24. The pre-bookers will start getting the phone from September.

"Our network continues to rapidly expand. Jio, in the next 12 months, will cover 99 percent of the population. India's 4G coverage will be more than its 2G coverage," he added. To meet the need for device affordability, the company realized it would have to release a 4G VoLTE feature phone, as even an entry level smartphone costs between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 4,500, Ambani said.
